I began listening to contemporary Christian music moreso than the gospel music I grew up on, about two years back. My pastor at the time, knew I was going through a life changing time and he told me that if I was gonna make it, it was imperative that I change my surroundings. And in doing so, I had to change what and who I listened to. ‘Pure Christian music’ was his words. He told me get rid of that other music, it wasnt the time for all that.
Without a second thought, I went home and did just that. I wanted the change, I wanted the life God created me to live. And if I continued to do what I always did, I will get what I always got. I enjoy listening the contemporary music, I find myself feeling more inspired and encouraged. ‘
Better than a Hallelujah’ is a contemporary Christian music song that Amy Grant sings. I remember Amy Grant from her pop days and I liked her then. But is something about this song that resonates with me. The song speaks about how in our most painful brokest moments, when we cry out to God. Those cries are more favored by God, than Hallelujah, the highest praise. That notion warms me because I remember those night when I was so broken, laying on my face, crying to God….and if that cry is favored more than the true praise God deserves-it just makes me more thankful that God is God.
Amy Grant – Better Than A Hallelujah
Songwriters: Sarah Hart, Chapin Hartford
God loves a lullaby in a mothers tears in the dead of night. Better than a hallelujah sometimes. God loves a drunkards cry, a soldiers pleas not to let him die. Better than hallelujah sometime
We pour out our miseries, God just hears a melody. Beautiful, the mess we are. The honest cries of breaking hearts, are better than a hallelujah
Woman holding on for life. Dying man giving up the fight, are better than a hallelujah sometime. Tears of shame for what’s been done. The silence when the words won’t come, are better than a hallelujah sometime
We pour out our miseries, God just hears a melody. Beautiful, the mess we are. The honest cries of breaking hearts, are better than a hallelujah.Better than a church bell ringing.
Better than a choir singing out, singing out
We pour out our miseries, God just hears a melody. Beautiful, the mess we are, honest cries of breaking hearts, are better than a hallelujah..
